DALRYMPLE LAKE |
| This is the first visit by Barrie Bassmasters to Dalrymple Lake, although many of us have fished it as it is a common stop on the Bassmania 100 series. It is actually two lakes, the upper and lower. The upper section is very shallow and is mostly largemouth country. Many of the boats in the Bassmania tournament started in this area, and many of the largest weights came from here. The lower lake is much deeper and holds both largemouth and smallmouth in good numbers. Many times both species are found in the same area. There is lots of weeds here, some pads and lots of milfoil to dunk worms etc in. There is a good population of walleyes, as well as pike. Commercial launches at Layzee Acres and Meadows End Resort. You can also launch at the narrows between the two lakes, it is a gravel ramp but I put my Ranger in there with no problems. |
Bass Pro Shops has an associate series on we just finished our third stop at Lake Dalrymple. Our first stop was at G-Pool, but we had to weigh in at noon due to prior engagements (Clubbie on Simcoe) and only had 7 pounds, I missed the second tourney as I was in New York for our 6 man team tournament. This was my first full tourney this year. http://photos-f.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v308/96/81/502843091/n502843091_1272325_3165.jpg |
| June 21, 2008 Kyle and I went to Dalrymple to fish for walleyes and hopefully crappie. Well that was the idea. Such a beautiful morning, almost no wind and clear skies. The walleyes did not cooperate first thing so we went to try crappie on a couple of spots that Steve R had marked for us. Lots of sunfish and rock bass and a couple of small bass and a couple of pike for our efforts. We went to the upper lake to have a look around. Lots of shallow water here, but very few fish seen and none caught. Lots of beds here but all the bass are gone. We did see lots of fry. Water temp is less then 70F which is really cool for this time of year. About noon we moved back to the lower lake and fished for pike with spinnerbaits but no action. We went to the windy side(the clouds had move in by then) and fished in the 5-7 ft level with crappie jigs and caught about 6 pike, 4 bass and half a dozen rock bass in about 2 hours. One of the bass was over 2.5 lb. I should carry a rod rigged with this little jig for when times are tough and I need a limit. Only one week until bass season. |
| May 25th, 2008 We fished from about 7:00 AM until noon. Dead calm, water temp 55 F. Scott had never been on the lake before so we went up to have a look around and maybe catch a walleye. Oh well, no walleyes although we did see several caught off the large mid-lake shoal in the lower lake. We caught 4 pike in total, all on jigs(twister tails and bucktails), none on spinnerbaits or traps. This is such an interesting lake with all sorts of different types of cover to fish. I am really looking forward to fishing this in bass season. Tons of boats on the water. |
